Many of these Colt Pocket Model 1849s experienced the Civil War as a personal weapon. Between 1849 and 1873, Colt manufactured 321,000 Pocket Revolvers in Hartford, Connecticut. Serial numbers from ~ 12 000 to 332 993 and, between 1853 and 1856, 10 000 in his factory in London. It may be considered the ancestor of the Colt Detective Special and other S & W Model 36.
